All Schools in Jammu Division to Stay Closed on August 29 and 30, 2025: Director School Education

The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, has announced that all government and private schools across the Jammu Division will remain closed on Friday and Saturday, August 29 and 30, 2025. This decision, issued by Director Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, comes in response to ongoing heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions that have disrupted normal life in the region.

Heavy rainfall has battered Jammu and Kashmir, causing waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall, with risks of cloudbursts and flooding in low-lying areas. To ensure the safety of students and staff, the Director of School Education has extended school closures for two additional days, following earlier shutdowns from August 24 to 27, 2025.

The closure applies to all schools in the Jammu Division, including districts like Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda. The decision also follows reports of damaged infrastructure, submerged roads, and three fatalities due to rain-related incidents, prompting authorities to prioritize public safety.

The extended closures have disrupted the academic schedule, with the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) already postponing Class 10 and 11 exams scheduled earlier this week. New exam dates will be announced once weather conditions improve. The Directorate has advised students, parents, and teachers to stay safe and avoid travel during this period, as roads and bridges remain at risk of flooding and landslides.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been closely monitoring the situation, traveling to Jammu to oversee rescue and relief operations. He has instructed district authorities to allocate additional funds for emergency restoration work. The administration, along with the Indian Army and State Disaster Response Force, is working to clear blocked roads and provide aid to affected areas.

The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall may continue in parts of J&K, with a red alert issued for districts like Pathankot and Gurdaspur in neighboring Punjab, indicating the severity of the weather. The Directorate of School Education will monitor the situation and issue further updates on school reopenings. Parents and students are advised to stay indoors, avoid rivers and streams, and follow safety advisories from local authorities.
