Delhi Police to soon launch MCOCA unit to tackle organized crime networks, gangsters
Delhi Police is preparing to launch a special unit under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) to crack down on gangsters and organized crime networks in the national capital and neighboring states, police sources said on Wednesday (October 8).

The proposal aims to strengthen investigations with dedicated forensic equipment and technical support for senior officials and experts in cyber crime.

“This unit has become necessary due to the increasing number of gangsters in the area and changing crime patterns,” a source said.

According to a police source, the new unit will get support from the crime branch and special cell by providing technical and operational support. The initial strength of the unit will probably be around 100 personnel.

The source said preliminary discussions have been held to prepare the structure of the unit.

“It will mainly deal with cases related to gangs, foreign-based criminals, extortion rackets running from prisons, gang rivalries and organized syndicates operating in Delhi and neighboring states including Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan,” the source said.

The unit will also coordinate joint operations with police forces in nearby states.

Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999, is a strict law that provides special provisions for the prevention and control of organized crime, including terrorism and related crimes in India.
