Karur stampede: The Supreme Court agreed to hear the TVK petition challenging the order of Madras HC to set up an SIT.
TVK moved to the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Madras High Court to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the Karur stampede, in which 41 people were killed.
A bench of Chief Justice BR Gawai and Justice of Justice noted the plea of a lawyer that the petition filed through TVK Secretary Adhav Arjun should be listed for hearing.

Cand bench on Tuesday Agreed to hear on 10 October The petition of BJP leader Uma Anandan challenged the order of the High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the stampede on September 27 and demanded a CBI inquiry.
The CJI along with the second petition agreed to hear the immediate petition on Friday.
TVK has demanded an independent inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court, arguing that a fair investigation conducted by Tamil Nadu Police officials would not be possible only.
41 people died and more than 60 people were injured in the stampede. Police noted that the rally saw a crowd of 27,000, which was about three times more than the expected 10,000 participants. The police also blamed the delay of seven hours in Vijay’s arrival at the venue.
