Lift carrying 10 workers collapses in Chhattisgarh power plant, 4 dead

Four workers were killed and six others injured after an elevator at a power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district collapsed from a height, officials said on Wednesday.

Sakti Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma told PTI that the incident took place on Tuesday night at the plant of RKM Powergen Private Limited in Dabhra area of ​​Uchhapinda village of the district.

According to preliminary information, 10 employees were inside the lift and were descending to the ground after their routine work. The lift suddenly crashed, injuring all of them, he said.

The workers were taken to Jindal Fortis Hospital in neighboring Raigarh district, where four of them died during treatment. Six others are undergoing treatment, the official said.

He said the capacity of the lift was around 2,000 kg and its maintenance work was done most recently on September 29.

The official said that investigation is underway to find out the cause of the lift accident.
