Maharashtra will provide ₹ 31,000 crore relief package to flood affected farmers,
It is estimated that more than 65-68 lakh hectares of crops were destroyed in the flood. Crops such as cotton, soybean, oranges, pomegranates, maize, millet, pulses and onions have been killed.
The Chief Minister said that out of 36 districts, 29 and 253 (out of 358) Taluka suffered losses due to heavy rains.
₹ 31,000 crore relief package will include everything from crop damage compensation to restoration of weak fields, pre–grace payments, medical bills, compensation for house damage, etc.
Out of this ₹ 31,000 crore package, ₹ 17,675 crore crop compensation, and 30,000 per damaged well, and for the upcoming Rabi season of 10,000 per hectare will be provided to farmers.
As a loss of livestock, farmers will receive chere 32,000 per animal, he said. When a total of more than 1.43 lakh hectares was sown at the beginning of the monsoon, crops worth more than 68 lakh hectares were damaged, Fadnavis said that 60,000 hectares were damaged than the field due to washing the top layer of soil.
Apart from this, 45 lakh farmers having crop insurance will get an ear 17,000 per hectare in insurance money.
The opposition also urged the state to declare “wet drought”. Various parts of the state including the capital Mumbai and its metropolitan region received continuous rains in September, throwing life out of gear. Hundreds of people had to be transferred to security due to floods, causing damage to crops on a large scale.
A “wet drought” is a meteorological phenomenon with abundant rainfall in an area, but the availability of water is low, causing agriculture loss.
