Meet Bihar mathematician KC Sinha, who is contesting state elections on Jan Suraj ticket
Ahead of the November 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party has declared renowned mathematician Professor KC Sinha as its candidate from Patna’s Kumhrar constituency. The announcement was part of the party’s first list of 51 candidates released on October 9.

Prashant Kishor established the Jan Suraj Party in October 2024, which intends to contest the elections independently in all 243 constituencies without forming an alliance with other parties in the upcoming elections.

Who is Professor KC Sinha?

Born on 29 December 1954 in Bhojpur district of Bihar, KC Sinha topped the board examinations and won the National Merit Scholarship. He joined Patna Science College for his intermediate education and later pursued B.Sc degree and M.Sc. degree there and graduated as a double gold medalist.

He is famous for his contributions to mathematics education. He wrote his first book, Coordinate Geometry, at the young age of 28 and since then, he has written over 70 of them. His books have been included in the school curriculum in Bihar and other states for the last 30 years and have helped students prepare for engineering entrance examinations and higher secondary education.

Professor Sinha has worked hard to provide good quality education to talented students who do not have adequate resources. He has been associated with Avasar Trust, which trains students for the JEE exam for free and is also part of a special program of the Bihar Education Department that trains students at IIT Patna without charging any fees.

He is known for solving complex mathematics problems in easy and understandable ways. He has worked with renowned publishing houses like Eduvisor, Bharti Bhavan, Students Friends, Rastogi Publications, JPNP and Kiran Prakashan.

He actively works with Eduvisor to use technology to bring quality education to remote villages in India, especially in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal and Odisha. She has also helped promote girls’ education in Bihar by creating free digital learning materials for NGOs.

Professor Sinha has held important academic positions and has served as Vice-Chancellor in several universities of Bihar, including Patna University, Nalanda Open University and Magadh University. He has won many prestigious awards, including the highest state education award Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Education Award, Icons of Bihar Award, Global Excellence Award and Pioneers of India Award.

2025 Bihar Assembly Elections Voting is to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
