The proposal triggers comprehensive public discussion, some Bengaluris argued that the name was a nutritious part of the city identity and should not be changed.
Many people argued that instead of changing the name of infrastructure projects, the government should give priority to practical issues such as accelerating low-construction metro lines and reducing the congestion of summit.
One user wrote in the comment section, “Our metro name is good. If we want to name it after Basavanna, we should then name a new station,” a user has written in the comment section.
Another said, “Namma metro The name is sufficient for our metro. Instead of doing this, focus on developing the city where Basavan was born. ,
The third user posted, “Then why did you not give your children and grandchildren and grandchildren and grandchildren to honor Basavanna. PLS stopped appeasement politics. Why it cannot be Namma Metro? It is funded by people’s taxes, which goes to the state’s coffers. You have not paid it from your pocket,” Third user posted it.
“First of all, repair Bangalore roads. People are falling and hurting. Taking care of citizens should be your top priorities. We are paying big taxes. Where is going ???” One user wrote. One user commented, “Bengalurians should oppose it. Namma Metro is a prestigious name, it should remain the same as it is.”
“First reduce the metro ticket prices, then think about changing its name,” another said.
This is not the first time the name change related to the metro of Bengaluru has shook the debate. After St. Mary, a proposal in September 2025 caused a political dispute to change the name of Shivajinagar Metro Station. Announcing the plans, Siddaramaiah said that after the announcement of the state, the name of the state would be announced.
At the annual feast of St. Mary Basilica on 8 September, he said, “It is proposed to name a metro station after St. Mary. Rizwan and I have talked about it because Rizwan is the MLA of this constituency. I will make a recommendation for the central government.” The announcement triggered a political storm, in which many people objected to the step.
