Outgoing Bihar Legislative Assembly met for 146 days, lowest in all five years of words: report
The outgoing 17th assembly worked on an average of 29 days in a year and an average of three hours in the days of getting homes. In 2024, assemblies in all states met for five hours on an average during seating days, an analysis of the PRS Assembly said.
Bihar will go to elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, and votes will be counted on 14 November.
According to the analysis, the 17th Vidhan Sabha passed 78 bills and all laws were passed on the day of their introduction. No bill was referred to any committee for further discussions.
Most of the bills passed during this tenure were related to education, finance and taxation and administration.
Some of these bills included Bihar Public Examination (Prevention of Inappropriate Instrument) Bill, 2024, The Bihar Control of Crime Bill, 2024, and platform based Gig Workers (Registration, Security and Welfare) Bill, Bill, 2025.
In 2023, the Legislative Assembly passed two bills to increase reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. However, he was killed by Patna High Court in June 2024.
Apart from general discussion on the annual budget, the legislators also discussed the expenditure of major ministries during the word.
In five years since 2020, the Assembly discussed the expenditure of the ministry for nine days on an average.
