Suspended lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who tried to throw a shoe on Chief Justice of India BR Gawai, said that he had no regrets on his act.

Kishore told ANI, “I was hurt. I was not intoxicated, this was my response to his action. I am not afraid. I do not regret what happened.”

He said that his response was based on a court order on 16 September on a petition filed for the restoration of the idol of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh. “On September 16, a PIL was filed in the CJI court. The CJI made fun of it and said – Go and pray to the idol and ask him to bring back your head. When the case related to our Sanatan Dharma comes, the SC passes such orders. Do not relieve the petitioner, but do not even hurt him. I was not a drug. I do not regret what happened. ” He said.

Bar bodies, SCBA and Scaora, and lawyers and political parties strongly condemned the incident, calling it “an attack on constitution and overall institution”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned Attack on CJI.

Delhi Police questioned Kishore for three hours and was later allowed to leave at 2 pm as no formal complaint was filed.
