There are all states here that have banned cough syrup for children under 2 years of time.
As of 8 October, the decline of death in the MP was 20, state Health Minister Rajendra Shukla told reporters on 7 October. At least five children are said to be in critical condition. In Rajasthan, three deaths have been reported.
Karnataka has banned any cold and cough syrup prescription for children under two years of age. Other states like Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala have also taken precautionary measures to prevent any such incident.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare Services of Karnataka issued a circular on 6 October, asking all the state government and private healthcare institutions to ban such drugs.
The notification said, “Cough and cold syrup should be determined or sent to children under 2 years of age,” said, “For children between 2 and 5 years, such drugs should be avoided until proper clinical evaluation is prescribed.

This remedy is taken due to cold syrup, with a chemical substance called Diethylene glycol (DEG) at a high level, which crosses the prescribed range of 0.1%.
Andaman and Nicobar
The Andaman and Nicobar administration issued an advisory that health professionals asked children under two years of age not to advise any cold or cough syrup medications.
News agency PTI said the decision was taken by Andaman officials in a meeting organized by Andaman officials on 7 October.
Arunachal Pradesh
Similarly, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh also issued a ban on the sale and use of Coldrif Cuff Syrup, an official said on 8 October as per PTI. The AP Drugs Control Department issued an advisor stating that the drug should not be “purchased, sold or stock” for public consumption.
This instructed the government and private doctors to be vigilant by determining the cuff syrup. However, it advised the general public to avoid any consumption of such syrup.
Punjab
The Punjab government also banned the sale of Coldrif Syrup on 7 October. The Punjab Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) stated that Coldrif Syrup was declared “not of standard quality” by the central government’s drug testing laboratories.
Therefore, it was completely prohibited for sales, distribution and use with “immediate effect in public interest”.
Delhi
The Delhi government also asked the hospitals of the national capital to follow the advisor issued by the Center in the case.
“All healthcare institutions, both the government and private, should ensure that the guidelines have been implemented in letters and spirit,” said that Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh quoted as saying.
Jharkhand
The government of Jharkhand also banned the ban on the sale of cough syrup like Coldrif, Respires, and Relif in a notification issued on 6 October.
Kerala
On October 6, the Kerala Health Department directed that no medicine should be given to children under 12 years of age without a prescription.
Health Minister Veena George held a high-level meeting and announced the decision. The three-member expert committee was also established to study the use of drugs for cough and to present a report immediately.
Telangana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu also issued similar instructions to prevent such syrup consumption by children.
