TN cancels manufacturing license of Sreesan Pharma linked to contaminated Coldrif
The Tamil Nadu government on Monday (October 13) announced that the manufacturing license of Sreesan Pharmaceuticals, the maker of contaminated cough syrup Coldrif, has been permanently canceled and the company has been ordered to shut down.

“The drug manufacturing license of Sreesan Pharmaceuticals has been completely canceled and the company has been closed down. Orders have been issued for a comprehensive inspection of other drug manufacturing units across Tamil Nadu,” the state government said in an official release.

According to the state drug control department, inspection revealed that the syrup contained 48.6% diethylene glycol (DEG) – a toxic chemical linked to the deaths of several children in Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities also found that Srisan Pharmaceuticals failed to comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP) and good laboratory practices (GLP), with more than 300 major and critical violations recorded during their inspection.

Company owner G Ranganathan was recently arrested by a special investigation team of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the company’s premises and the residences of some officials in connection with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case.
