Weather Update: Heavy rain likely in parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka; The sky will remain clear in Delhi
It’s almost mid-October, and yet, many parts of India are experiencing unpredictable and intense rainfall due to the delayed withdrawal of monsoon and active weather systems. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert on Saturday, October 11, predicting heavy rainfall for several southern states, including Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka.

Yellow alert is in place for other areas including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Mahe for Saturday. The weather office has predicted withdrawal of southwest monsoon from many areas during the next 3-4 days.

There is a possibility of withdrawal of monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

In its latest bulletin, the IMD said conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from many parts of India – Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as well as entire areas of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

“Withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon now passes through 28°N/86°E, Raxaul, Varanasi, Jabalpur, Akola, Ahilyanagar, Alibaug and 18.5°N/72°E, Conditions are favorable for withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from remaining parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and West Bengal during next 2-3 days. In parts of Sikkim, Odisha and Telangana.

Strong surface winds with speed of 30-40 kmph are also expected over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on October 11. Over the next 4-5 days, South Peninsular India should also be prepared for thunderstorms and lightning.

IMD has issued a forecast of light to moderate rain and storm in Odisha on Saturday. Today, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places with heavy rain at a few places. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is predicted in the state on October 11 and 12.

Chance of rain in Northeast India

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at isolated places over northeastern states including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Saturday.
